The 2024 Great Bend Reading Initiative will kick off on Monday, January 8 with the book The Wild Robot, by Peter Brown. Over 6 weeks, students and families will be invited to experience the story with reading prompts & activities, guest speakers in school, community exploration, and more!
The Great Bend Reading Initiative is primarily for elementary-aged students in our community with opportunities for both older and younger students to join the fun. Programming is presented in partnership with the Great Bend USD 428, Great Bend Public Library, Kansas Wetlands Education Center, KSTATE Research and Extension - Cottonwood District, Barton Community College, and numerous local businesses like yours!Â

Free book for all USD 428 students, Kindergarten through 6th-Grade
GB Public Library Robot Training/STEM Day, Jan. 27
Classroom visits from the Kansas Wetlands Education Center, Barton Community College STEM, and KState Research & Extension
